ANALOG EFFECTS CHAIN FOR DIGITAL VIDEO

SCION (Superchromat Input / Output Node) lets you easily use a broad range of analog circuits and devices as an ‘effects chain’ for processing high resolution deep color digital video. It has 3 HDMI inputs routed to 3 Analog Sends, and one Analog Return sent to an HDMI output. SCION automatically rescales and sync locks all the video sources making it easy to build analog effects from simple circuits.

ULTRA‑PRECISION SIGNAL PATH

• Conversion without compromise. High resolution, deep color, uncompressed 4:4:4 end-to-end.
• Every format that matters. HDMI 2.0 up to 4K/60 and analog from NTSC/PAL through VGA to 1080p60.
• Three independent sends. Any HDMI input, routed to any of the 3 analog outputs at 30 bits per pixel, each mirrored as HDMI sends.
• Archival quality analog capture. The analog return path captures at 36 bits per pixel, allowing for detailed color grading workflows.
• True signal integrity. With the low noise linear power rails and precisely engineered electronics, you can loop an analog output to the return and the recovered HDMI matches with >1 LSB. Digital pathways are bit-perfect.

At SCION’s core is the same dedicated mixer ASIC found in broadcast-class video mixers. We’ve wrapped it in an easy-to-use Open Sound Control (OSC) API, so you get the power of professional silicon with the flexibility of open control.

• Dedicated digital processing hardware. Pan, zoom, rotate, luma/chroma key, and color correction all in a low-latency pipeline.
• Open by design. Control every parameter via OSC over Ethernet. Open source client application.
• Creative integration. Use our open-source client, or patch directly into software like TouchDesigner, Ableton Live, or any app that speaks OSC.

RESPECT COLOR.

Unpredictable crazy colors from glitching composite video signals are cool, but what’s even cooler is grading suite level control over fine color detail. Wild when you want. Nuanced when subtlety is paramount. Move away from YUV/RGB colourspaces and define your own colourspace for analog video. SCION’s analog front end captures 16X the dynamic range of standard analog to digital converters, so you can apply LUTs to soften highlights and reveal glorious analog details hidden in the shadows. You’re in control.

BUILT FOR EXPERIMENTATION.

Patch SCION into dirty mixers, custom filters, or your modular synth. The analog I/O expects standard video levels (~1 Vp‑p, standard selectable) and is designed to be safe up to ±12 V on the inputs, with post‑processing level clamp and sync regeneration to keep the digital side clean.

• Never lose sync. The analog outputs are sync-locked so they can be mixed flawlessly in the analog domain.
• Safe levels. Sophisticated analog clamping ensures blacks stay black and whites are bright, regardless of the analog signal path.
• Scalable. The return path is phase‑aligned with the sends, and multiple units can be daisy‑chained to synchronize large, multi‑source & screen rigs.
